From car washes to quiz nights to cocktail classes and more, U.G.L.Y. Bartenders come up with unique and innovative ways to raise funds and ramp-up the fun-factor in their venues.
U.G.L.Y. Bartender contestants create events, fundraisers, games and experiences that their patrons will embrace.
Each bartender who raises over $1000 qualifies for incentives and prizes as our way of saying thank you for giving their time and talents to help the Leukaemia Foundation’s work.
The highest fundraiser in each state wins a holiday, plus a really U.G.L.Y. trophy and a Hoshizaki Ice Machine valued at $7,500 for their venue.
U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year has been embraced by Australia’s hospitality industry. It’s a win-win. The activities are a great way to get more people into venues to have a good time whilst raising money to help the Leukaemia Foundation provide accommodation to support families facing blood cancer.
Leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma are all types of blood cancer and they can develop in anyone, of any age, at any time.
Another 35 Australians are diagnosed each and every day.
Although improved treatments and care are helping more people survive, sadly someone loses their life to blood cancer every two hours.
In fact, blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma.
Treatment is long and gruelling and is mostly provided in capital cities. For people living in regional or rural Australia this means moving to the city immediately to start treatment. And they often don’t know how long that will take.
Each year, the Leukaemia Foundation helps more than 750 families from regional and rural Australia by providing free accommodation in our capital cities so they can access life-saving treatment at major hospitals.
The Leukaemia Foundation’s apartments, townhouses and units are designed as a complete 'home-away-from-home'.
Funds raised by U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year provide this accommodation at no cost to families.
It means they have a space to call their own during the most challenging and difficult period in their lives, and it relieves the emotional and financial stress of moving to the city.
Stays can vary from two nights to two years, depending on treatment and we pledge to provide the accommodation for as long as people need it.
Since 2009 U.G.L.Y. Bartenders have raised over $10 million providing over 125,000 nights of accommodation.
