The hospitality industry’s way of giving back.

Great images, fun stories

In bars, pubs and clubs all over Australia, generous bartenders and their patrons have embraced the U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year campaign, helping turn a decade of U.G.L.Y. into a hospitality industry success story.

The 2017 competition has wrapped up, with 1,400 U.G.L.Y. Bartenders raising more than $1.7 million. Bartenders and venues are now gearing up for a fabulous 2018, when the Leukaemia Foundation’s renowned fun and funky hospitality fundraiser, U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year celebrates a Decade of U.G.L.Y.!

U.G.L.Y. is all about highlighting the ‘Understanding Generous Likeable You’, in bartenders and their patrons, while raising funds to support the Leukaemia Foundation accommodation service.

In every capital city across Australia, the Leukaemia Foundation offers home-away-from-home accommodation for regional families who must urgently relocate to receive vital blood cancer treatment.

Treatment can be arduous, and families utilise the Foundation’s accommodation for an average of four months – at no cost to them. Every $80 raised by an U.G.L.Y. Bartender provides a family with one night of accommodation, relieving significant emotional and financial stress when they need help the most.

Exhibiting their enthusiastic U.G.L.Y. side, hundreds of venues will nominate their U.G.L.Y. Bartender and gear up to show how just how U.G.L.Y. they can be; creating innovative and engaging fundraisers for this fun and fabulous competition.

Since its inception U.G.L.Y. Bartenders have raised over $11.7 million providing over 145,000 nights of accommodation.

In 2017 U.G.L.Y. Bartenders raised $1.7 million and will provide more than 21,000 nights of accommodation over the coming year for people facing the challenges of blood cancer; an amazingly generous outcome.

To acknowledge the amazing efforts of these bartenders and their venues, the Leukaemia Foundation offers fantastic incentive prizes in every state, in addition to the first prize for each state’s highest fundraiser and their venue. State winners will receive a Flight Centre Gift Card, and their venue will win either the Hoshizaki Ice Machine, or Lancer Beverage Systems products or services, to the value of $7,500, proudly donated by Principal Sponsor, Hoshizaki Lancer.
